Adding event onto a field in lists

Hi,
I was wondering if there is a way you can add an event onto a List field
without coding?

i.e. I have a form set up as a List field, whenever status changes I want
sharepoint to e-mail the address in another field called unitmanager with
the details.


If there anyway I can do this generically?

Only within document libraries you can add event handlers.
Another possiblity would be to have a service running directly on the
server, which checks the content of a list/item/field.
